Alexander the Great

Wee Doogie squeals foul play. Now, it's US that owe HIM an apology for besmirching his good name.

Now here at the 1820 media suite are NOT, never have, nor ever will suggest that anyone has leant on the old Canadian bloke but something a bit fishy's goig on here. Earlier in the week he was all full of considered zeal and forensic analysis. Now he looks like he just wants a big plate of Maple Syrup and some Ice Hockey. Yesterday Ron Gould, the Canadian election expert who wrote the report, said in a letter to the Electorial Commission that he had never suggested specific actions were taken by ministers to advance their own party's interests.

Eh? Hang on a minute.

Gould chose not to exercise the powers specifically conferred upon him by the UK parliament manually to inspect the rejected ballot papers. For why we know not. But now we will never know by how much more the SNP would have won, or how many Greens and Socialists were denied representation. He then pretty much denounced the Lib-Lab administration now he's back-tracking faster than a Moose on a shoot. As 'Mac writes n the Herald site writes: "Given the inconsistencies between Gould's report and his verbal "clarifications" there may not be real grounds for the Scottish Government to instigate a judicial review."

Even Druggy Dave got his head round it: "The independent report on the Scottish elections found that the Labour Government put party interest before voters' interest in conducting those elections. Will the PM now offer his own personal apology for the unacceptable conduct of ministers?" David Cameron, Prime Minister's Questions, 24 October 2007

But as usual, it's no-ones fault and no one will be responsible. Gould looks likes a patsy.

Mis-Representation of the People Act

For those of you in the know, the above should read, Representation of the People Act, and it is criminal not to obey the rules.

Ron Gould’s Report tells it all. He has said that Ministers were remiss in their actions, in trying to give political advantage to their Party, and putting the good of the Party above the electorate. Even then they failed miserably, which is a sign of sheer incompetence.

Mr Ron Gould had the evidence to make these allegations, but has chosen to confine his comments to his own remit, which was specifically not to blame anyone personally, which he did very well, and just to give constructive criticism to the Government. We can all read between the lines, and know who is to blame for this debacle, and insult to Scottish democracy.

Politicians will try to outdo their competitors, but the above Act makes it illegal to mis-represent the people, Therefore Douglas Alexander as the person in charge of the election on 3rd May should take responsibility and resign, or face charges under the Act.

Don’t forget about MSP Mr Tom Mc Cabe ’s part in all this mess.

We look forward to further developments, especially Mr Alexander being questioned by Parliament.

Let Democracy Rule.
