Tartan Revolution

Gruniad readers can gorge themselves on Scottish stories this week, where normally there is none.

The best may be Iain MacWhirter who writes on the Tartan Revolution :
asking "the big what if" of Gordon Brown:

"What if Brown hadn't capitulated to electoral opportunism? What if he'd decided instead to halt the renewal of Trident, rule out nuclear power in favour of renewable energy and review and replace private finance initiatives? What if he had ended dawn raids on asylum seekers, doubled the budget for international aid and launched a national debate on constitutional reform, instead of reheated citizen's juries? What if Brown had decided to share the proceeds of economic growth with the less advantaged by abolishing prescription charges and graduate fees, launching a pilot project on free school meals and curbing the right to buy council homes?" Full article here.

Then there’s Angus McNeil ‘Thank Alex almighty, we'll be free at last! here.

Last – but never least - Christopher Harvie who manages to combine Lewis Mumford, Guelph connections, Gothe and Carbon Capture.

All good stuff (more or less). Much of the responses is dreary aggressive and repetitive. Where is the wider English Left which rejoices in the changing dynamics of the UK politics, as the Independent hinted at here, in the memorable headline Scotland 10, England 0?

Many thanks for pointing to the excellent, as always, Harvie article. I agree with your assessment of the predictable responses.
