Herald Editor Joins Darling
Talk of built-in political bias and stitch-ups are routinely dismissed as hysteria, or chip on the shoulder paranoia. Interesting then to note then that Catherine MacLeod, the UK political editor of the Herald newspaper, is to become an adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling.
Watch this space for which New Labour acolyte gets put in her place.
Not that it seems to be working very well does it?
According to the Media Gruniad: "MacLeod has worked for the Herald for 10 years, first as a Westminster correspondent and since 2001 as the Glasgow paper's UK political editor. Before joining the Newsquest-owned Herald, she worked as a freelance journalist in Westminster for ITV franchise Grampian TV and at the BBC.
"I have a huge degree of respect for Alistair Darling, I've known him for a long time," MacLeod told MediaGuardian. co.uk today."This offer came up and I accepted. I think it will be challenging and I hope it will be interesting."
She said she felt a "huge amount of sadness" to be parting company with the Herald."
I'm sure. Tragic.
A Treasury spokeswoman confirmed MacLeod's appointment, but did not elaborate on the scope of her new role.
