Old Bill on the March
I remember that the first legislative act by Thatcher was to raise the basic pay of the police way above an ordinary wage. This was the first step in using and changing the police in what was effectivey class war that she waged for her term in office. I also remember police on the picket line at Bilston Glen durng the Miners Strike waving their extra time pay packets at striking miners.
So you'll excuse me if I dont stand shoulder to shoulder with them as they march through London today ("Police to march over pay "betrayal")
I wonder who's counting the protest for them? In time honoured tradition whoever it is should estimate it at about a quarter of the actual turnout.
